Privacy policy
What stays on your computer, and the few times Lumina uses the network.
Effective October 22, 2026. This policy covers the Lumina app (the local server, the web interface, the desktop app and the lumina command) and this website.
In short
- Lumina has no servers, no accounts and no telemetry. The author receives nothing about you or your use.
- Your recordings, transcripts, notes, summaries, embeddings, chats, chat attachments and indexed files stay on your computer.
- Lumina connects to the internet only to download models and updates, to search the web when you turn web search on or live assistance looks up a question, and to reach a model server you configure.
- Your other local apps (brain, OpenCue, AI WorkStudio) are reached only on this computer, when you save a meeting to brain, send one to an OpenCue agent or turn on automatic saving. An OpenCue agent that uses an online model shares what you send it with that provider.
What stays on your computer
Lumina processes audio and text with models that run on your device (Parakeet, Canary, Whisper, Silero VAD, EmbeddingGemma 2, Gemma 4 through llama.cpp, Kokoro). It stores everything in its data folder, ~/.lumina/data by default: the SQLite database with meetings, transcripts, notes and chats, the ChromaDB search index, downloaded models, uploaded files, settings and logs. Audio is transcribed as it arrives and is not saved as an audio file, except recordings you import yourself, which are copied into uploads/.
The Lumina server listens only on 127.0.0.1 and refuses requests from other machines and from websites open in your browser. The MCP server is available to agents you set up on the same computer; the HTTP endpoint requires a token.
When Lumina uses the network
| What | When | Sent to | What is sent |
|---|---|---|---|
| Model downloads | When you click Download (or install with --models) | Hugging Face, GitHub | A standard download request (your IP address and the file requested) |
| Install and update | When you run the installer or lumina update | GitHub, astral.sh (uv), PyPI | Standard download requests |
| Version check | When Lumina starts and every 6 hours (switch it off in Settings → About) | GitHub (raw.githubusercontent.com) | A request for one small file with the version number; nothing about you or your data |
| Web search | Only for chat messages sent with Web search on (off by default) | DuckDuckGo, or your SearXNG | The text of your question |
| Web pages you add | When you press Read page in Sources (or an agent uses add_web_page) | The site you pasted | A normal page request from your computer |
| Live assistance on the web | When live assistance is on and your sources do not answer a question asked in a meeting (on by default; Settings → Transcription) | DuckDuckGo, or your SearXNG | The question only, never the transcript |
| Notes model | When Lumina writes notes or answers, if you chose a server that is not on this computer | The server you configured | Your notes, the transcript and matching passages from your sources |
Ollama, LM Studio and the built-in Gemma 4 run on your computer, so nothing leaves it when you use them. Third-party services have their own privacy policies.
Recording other people
Lumina can record the other participants of a call through your computer's audio. Laws on recording conversations differ by country and state; some require everyone's consent. Tell the people you meet with when you record them. Lumina never starts recording on its own: it records only after you click Start listening and stops when you pause or end the meeting.
Your control
- Delete a meeting, a source or a chat from the app; it is removed from the database and the search index.
- Delete downloaded models from Settings.
- Remove everything by deleting the data folder.
lumina uninstallremoves the command and the app and keeps your data until you delete it.

Children
Lumina does not collect data from anyone, including children.
