Add PDFs, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Markdown, text, HTML or code, or whole folders. Lumina indexes them with EmbeddingGemma 2 and re-indexes a folder when its files change.

Which model listens

Automatic uses Parakeet when the language is automatic, Canary when you pick one of 25 European languages (it follows your choice instead of guessing) and Whisper for any of its 99 languages.

What leaves your computer

Lumina has no servers and no accounts. The local server answers only to this computer.

Never

Audio, transcripts, notes, summaries, embeddings, chats, your files. No telemetry.

Model downloads from Hugging Face and GitHub, with the size and license shown first.

When you turn it on

Web search sends your question to DuckDuckGo or your own SearXNG. Off by default.

When you point it there

If you connect a model server that is not on this computer, prompts go to it. Ollama and LM Studio run locally.

Questions

Does it need a GPU or a fast computer?
No. Transcription and search run on the CPU of any recent laptop. Gemma 4 E2B needs about 8 GB of memory in total; on Apple Silicon it uses the GPU automatically. With less memory, connect a smaller model through Ollama or LM Studio.
How does it hear the other people in a call?
It records your computer's audio as “Others”: a Core Audio process tap on macOS 14.2+ (you allow System Audio Recording once, during setup; ScreenCaptureKit on macOS 13), WASAPI loopback on Windows and the PulseAudio/PipeWire monitor on Linux. Your microphone is “You”.
Does it work offline?
Yes, after the first download. Only web search (off by default) and model downloads use the internet.
Is it free? Can I use it at work?
Yes, it is free to use, change and share, including at work. What the license does not allow is selling Lumina or a product or service whose value comes from it (Apache-2.0 with the Commons Clause).
Does it tell speakers apart?
It separates you (microphone) from everyone else (computer audio). Telling apart several people in the same stream is planned.
