# OpenCue > OpenCue is a free, source-available desktop app for macOS, Linux and Windows where you create personal AI agents. Each agent has a face (a drawn avatar), instructions, memory, an email inbox, a computer (Docker, SPACE microVM, WSL or the host), files, skills, connected apps (MCP and Composio), voice and automations, and agents work together in group chats. It is local-first (no account, no telemetry) and you bring your own model: OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI, OpenRouter, CheaperInference, Ollama, LM Studio, any OpenAI-compatible API, or the Codex, Claude Code and Grok CLIs. Key facts: - Install on macOS/Linux: `curl -fsSL https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/install.sh | sh`. On Windows (PowerShell): `irm https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/install.ps1 | iex`. Start with `opencue`. Installers (.dmg, .AppImage, .deb, .rpm, .exe, .msi) are on GitHub Releases. - Current version: 0.3.4 (October 18, 2026). The app updates itself with signed releases from GitHub. - License: Apache-2.0 with the Commons Clause — free to use, modify and share, not to sell. - Built with a Rust core and a Tauri 2 + React desktop shell. A companion CLI, `opencue-cli`, shares the data folder. - Approvals: in "Ask first" mode (default) sending email, commands or file writes on the host/WSL, deleting memories and data-changing tools wait for the user. "Fully autonomous" runs everything. - Agents backed by the Codex or Claude Code CLIs get OpenCue's tools through a local MCP server: `opencue mcp-serve --agent `. - Data folder: `~/Library/Application Support/opencue` (macOS), `~/.local/share/opencue` (Linux), `%APPDATA%\opencue\data` (Windows); override with `OPENCUE_HOME`. Secrets are kept in the OS keychain. - Not offered on purpose: phone numbers, payments or wallets. ## Docs - [Documentation](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/docs/): install, first agent, providers, memory, groups, files, approvals, apps/MCP/Composio, skills, email, automations, computers and desktop view, voice, internet, updates, data, CLI, building from source, FAQ - [Install](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/docs/#install): terminal install scripts and installers per system - [Model providers and CLI agents](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/docs/#providers): API keys, local models, Codex/Claude CLIs and their MCP tools - [Automations](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/docs/#automations): cron schedules, new email, local webhooks, group messages - [Computers](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/docs/#computers): Docker, SPACE, WSL, host, desktop view ## Project - [Changelog](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/changelog/): what changed in each version - [Privacy policy](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/privacy/): what stays on the computer and what goes to services the user connects - [Source code](https://github.com/Lautaro005/opencue): GitHub repository, README and issues - [Security policy](https://github.com/Lautaro005/opencue/security/policy): how to report vulnerabilities privately ## Optional - [Releases](https://github.com/Lautaro005/opencue/releases): downloads for every version - [install.sh](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/install.sh): macOS/Linux installer script - [install.ps1](https://lautaro005.github.io/opencue/install.ps1): Windows installer script - [SPACE setup guide](https://github.com/Lautaro005/opencue/blob/main/docs/space-setup.md): running agents in Firecracker microVMs
